Indian Head Massage
Training
Two days of mindful, nurturing touch: seated & couch-based
Bantry, West Cork
About this training
One of the most beautiful treatments
to give and to receive
Indian Head Massage is a deeply calming upper-body treatment with roots in the Ayurvedic tradition, working on the upper back, shoulders, arms, hands, neck, scalp and face. On this course you’ll learn it both ways.
- The classic seated sequence
- And an adapted version on the massage table.
It asks very little in the way of equipment, and gives a great deal in return. Easing tension, quietening the mind, and leaving clients feeling genuinely cared for.
The course runs over two separate Sundays. On the first day you’ll learn the full seated sequence. You then have three weeks to practise at home before we meet again to refine what you’ve learned and build on it, including the adapted table sequece and scalp treatment. Whether you’re an experienced therapist adding a new modality, or someone drawn to massage for the very first time, this course meets you where you are.
A simple chair, warm hands and unhurried attention. Sometimes that’s all it takes for someone to finally let go.
How the course works
Two Sundays,
three weeks apart
There is a lot to take in when you learn a new treatment, and hands learn best with time. So rather than packing everything into one weekend, we give you space to practise in between. Most Indian Head Massage courses also teach only the seated sequence. You’ll learn both the seated and the couch version, so you can offer the treatment in a clinic, a salon, a workplace or at events.
Day one
The classic seated sequence
Consultation, positioning and the full traditional treatment given seated in an ordinary chair: upper back, shoulders, arms, hands, neck, scalp and face.
In between
Three weeks to practise
You’ll take home the full written sequence, along with short video clips of key parts of the treatment to guide your practice. Give a few practice treatments to friends or family, and bring your questions back with you.
Day two
The couch version & warm oil scalp treatment
We refine what you’ve practised, adapt the treatment for the massage table, and add a nurturing warm oil treatment for the scalp and hair.
The curriculum
What you’ll learn
Indian Head Massage is a lovely treatment for clients who carry stress and tension in the head, neck and shoulders, and for anyone who simply needs to feel cared for.
Who it’s for & certification
Open to therapists and complete beginners
Qualified therapists
Massage therapists, holistic therapists, beauty therapists, reflexologists, reiki practitioners and other bodyworkers — this is a wonderful, low-equipment treatment to add to your menu. You’ll receive the Evolve Certificate in Indian Head Massage on completion.
Beginners & non-therapists
You’re very welcome — no prior experience is needed, and many people take this course to treat family and friends. Please note that this is not a professional qualification: without a professional qualification in massage or anatomy & physiology, you are unlikely to be able to obtain insurance to practice professionally on the public.
